WHAT ARE SOMATICS
Somatic practices utilize the mind-body connection to survey the internal experience. Find pleasure, agility, coordination, self-awareness, and physical intelligence through this work.
At INOCHI BODYSPACE we begin this work on a massage table by passively moving the skeleton, while the client relaxes in the experience of how their body can move. Through a series of sessions, as one gains familiarity, we start to work with guided movement explorations that allow for healthier embodied qualities and awareness around movement patterns and postures that need attention.
SOMATIC TECHNIQUES we INCORPORATE INTO SESSIONS
Alexander technique stresses that movement should be economical and needs only the minimum amount of energy and effort. With awareness, it is possible to change postural habits and redistribute muscle effort more evenly and gently throughout the body.
The primary function of this work is to do less, find a structural alignment that balances on itself, and learn how to take effort away without losing quality or position. It is very good for building awareness as we release movement patterns that are causing discomfort or muscular imbalance.
Franklin Method integrates exercises designed to engage you in your anatomy and how it functions. It uses informed mental imagery to enhance how movement is taught.
It is primarily incorporated in the language as a compliment to teaching Pilates, movement or floorbarre at INOCHI.
Feldenkreis, uses gentle movement explorations to observe and familiarize one’s self with bio mechanics (how the anatomy is build to function). This is done through movement exploration known as ‘awareness through movement’, as well as hands on integration session.
Both help reorganize and pattern movement qualities in accordance to one’s biomechanics. There is a key focus on spine, limbs and the head.
